Best steak house in St, George. I got the ribeye, it was awesome. Service was spot on. One small thing is the busser asked us every time he would go for a water refill. Considering we needed it refilled one million times and he was on top of it, I wish he would not have asked each time. But the server was awesome. I will be going back... a lot.

I have great expectations! Ok I got waisted here and this is a bad review of a good restaurant.

I love this place we stayed at a high priced resort and bailed on the food because you can't do better than this !!! And the mud pie is crazy insane good !!!

I had a wonderful Elk chop for dinner tonight. The food was excellent, the service prompt, and the ambiance was woodsy, cabin/lodge. I started with a Cream of Celery soup with a nice loaf of bread. Damn, though, does every restaurant have to serve butter that's as cold and hard as a glacier? Room temperature--get it, got it, good! The Elk was very tasty. It's a mild meat with a beef/lamb flavor. I had it cooked rare, and it was just perfect. Sides were fried onion sticks and a sweet potato with maple flavored butter. For dessert, I went light. I got the cheesecake with the Chambord raspberry sauce. A nice ending to a good meal. This was a nice place to go that was different from the other places I've eaten in St. George. Slowly, the town is adding some more choices for restaurants. I could not check in with my iPhone even though I was sitting in the restaurant. It said I was too far away to check in. Huh? PS: It let me check in from my hotel 3 miles away. Go figure!

If you are from an urban area and want to get a taste of the wild west, this is it! Buffalo Ribs were excellent, service was good, next time I'm there will probably go for the elk. Painted Pony was snobby, Gun Barrel was real!
(4)Dave N.
Like the atmosphere, but the steak I ordered was pretty tough and not that great. I tried some of the food my brother and friend ordered and it was good. It's a very meat and potatoes manly place as far ad the food goes but just wasn't that great. I might go back cause it's close and probably deserves s second chance but there are other places I'd rather eat for sure.

Though this place looks like an outback, chilis, or other chain restraunt, its not. Well not as far as I know anyway. Into a vaguely rustic, sorta attempt at a mountaincabin atmosphere and get seated. The menu is game and meat heavy, its a steakhouse. My buddy and I walked in 15 minutes before they closed and they still sat us and fed us. Salad with Bleu Cheese was good, the dressing was heavy o nthe cheese which is nice to see. The elf chop was a chop with bone on still. I think it was a small elk given the size of the rib bone. However it was tender and delish. A little gamey. The mashed potatoes were a little gummy. but the fries my buddy got looked good. All in all i would return here for a meal. P.S. The Apple pie is amazing!!!!
(4)Brian W.
Every time I go, I get the Tenderloin with garlic mashed potatoes. I can't see myself ordering anything else. If the game chili is available, it is a must order. I have no idea what they put in it, but I don't care; it is delicious.

If you don't mine (real) stuffed animals on the walls then this place is great. They serve 'game' meats, so you should expect this type of decor. Husband and I came with his grandparents, the girls each got a different fish dish - I had some stuffed trout which was a large whole fish. Grandmother had some halibut which she completely finished so that was great. The boys had their "Mixed Game Grill" which included elk chop, buffalo prime rib, and venison bratworst - the consensus after all of the meat was - nothing beats beef. They also have a side of sweet potato with a maple almond butter. Best side dish of the evening. Best of the night though - their Game Chili. Best chili ever. Spicy enough, not to game-y, and hearty. I'd go back there just for a bowl of chili.

The Gun Barrel would probably come in at 3 and a half stars if I were able to give such ratings, but as it is I'll spot it the extra half. Our chief disappointment was with the menu, which did not boast nearly enough game meat to merit the restaurant's somewhat hopeful subtitle of "steak and game house." After all, we specifically went there in order to enjoy something wild, but discovered that such pickings were slim; upon enquiring about the much-ballyhooed Velvet Elk, for instance, we were told it had been stricken from the menu just a week before. There was not a single venison dish, and we could count the other 'game' meat dishes (elk and buffalo) on one hand. That being said, when the (slightly tame) entrees arrived they were very tasty, and the sides were nicely done. As for the other elements, the decor is what you would expect; the service is quick, friendly and knowledgable; and the food is better than average. All in all, if you don't mind critters staring accusatorily at you from the walls, this is a great place for red meat.

Nice aesthetics.. Been to the gun barrel in Jackson, this location doesn't come close unfortunately... Would love it if it were as good! Would like to see more reasonable prices for the size servings. Better steaks at Texas Roadhouse and half the price.

My wife and I have driven past this restaurant many times and thought it would be a great place to eat. I read the reviews and knew the prices so I thought we would know what we were getting into. I ordered the elk chop, which for what they charge is not large enough. There was maybe 3oz of meat on my chop. Their sides are also not cooked to order. My wife got a fish dish with the seasonal vegetables. They snap peas they brought her were incredibly overcooked and saturated in oil. We asked for them to make up a fresh side of just steamed snap peas, they brought us out a fresher version of the same oily peas we didn't want. I had the rice with wild mushrooms side with my elk, and it was the same story, they obviously cook the sides before dinner service starts and coat them with oil to keep them from getting dried out. We will not be dining here again. We arrived within 30 minutes of their opening for dinner service, and should have been served food that was freshly prepared for the price we were paying.
(2)Jackie C.
Went there in April, 2012 with my husband for dinner. We ordered the potato skins, which were simple, but good. The side dinner salads were very plain, but the housemade ranch and blue cheese were great. The Prime Rib was the special and it was great for the price. $14.99 for Prime Rib, mashed potatos, and a starter salad. My husband ordered the buffalo burger, and he enjoyed it. The service was excellent, server & busers were very attentive. The restaurant ambiance was nice, but casual. Overall good dining experience. Total bill w/o tip was $40 for appetizer & 2 meals.
(4)Denton S.
Would have been 5 stars but they cut out the porterhouse (Plate sized) and most of the Game on the menu. The Buffalo Prime rib is excellent. I get it almost every time. Make sure not to order it over medium, as it will come out dry due to the meat not their cooking. I love the sweet potato, the apple pie is great, and if you love chocolate, the chocolate ganash cake is to die for. I take my wife here once a month, it's the only Steak she eats.
(4)Claiborne B.
really liked the fried green tomatoes and I'm from Virginia! Ribeye was most tasty as were all the sides. yum!!!
(4)Russ C.
Okay food, service was not good at all. Waited 10 minutes to order a drink. Had to ask for bread and they got my order wrong. Not worth the money
(2)Peter L.
With some reluctance I have to give the Gun Barrel three stars. The food was really good, close to 4 stars, including the buffalo ribs which were truly fall off the bone good, and the buffalo steak which had great flavor and texture and was cooked as ordered (rare). The big issue was service which was very slow. In fairness to the staff, 4 large tables were set up and demanding attention and it appeared staffing may have been light for such a large crowd on a Wednesday night. The food was good enough to say I will return some time in the future and I hope the staffing is more in line with the crowd.
(3)Cami M.
The decor is decidedly that of a luxury mountain lodge complete with large wood burning fireplace. The lights are kept low which is nice for an intimate dinner. The staff are friendly and speedy, drinks are always kept full. Our favorites here are the fillet mignon and the prime rib, cooked to perfection both melt in your mouth...I prefer the prime rib with the au jus, it is amazing, by far the best steak or prime rib in southern Utah. The desserts are nothing special, though all made in house, they are not executed very well. For dessert go to The Sweet Tooth Fairy for cup cakes, or better yet the delectable cake bites. I will be frequenting Gun Barrel again and again.
(4)Kent W.
We have been here 3-4 times and each time the food and service has been better than average. The last time was 09/06/2010 for my father's 75th birthday. We all had different steaks, prime rib, salads, kids menu and dessert. Too expensive ($35 each with tip) for more than special occasions. Nice rustic atmosphere, very good service.
(4)Mai S.
After a day of golf in St. George, we headed to Gun Barrel Steak & Game House. The atmosphere has a rustic lodge feel and quite comforting after a long day outdoors. We were seated in a dark corner, so that was a little disappointing, but the service was pretty good. The bread here is tasteless and I would probably avoid eating it if you can. The house salad that comes with your entree is just ok, although the lettuce could have been fresher. Between the four of us, we ordered Elk, ribs, halibut and rib eye. The ribs were pretty good and the portion was huge! The elk and rib eye were good as well, but the halibut was dry and tasteless. Overall the food was good, service good, and it definitely satisfied our hunger. I've had better steaks and ribs, but not bad considering we found this restaurant on a random website while were driving in the car.
(3)Inga R.
After three days into a road trip consisting of Mt. Whitney, Death Valley and Red Cliffs, this place was like a heaven to my palette. The Prime Rib was excellent, and the Elk was tender and not too gamey. Good drinks and wonderful side dishes round out the meal. The staff is knowledgeable of the menu and drink list. just be prepared to work it off hiking or riding at MOAB!
(5)Jack A.
This place was highly recommended. We never knew because they were closed for lunch...at 1:30! Lame.
(3)Faye N.
Excellent food, great fast service. Friendly staff. We were out of town and looking for a nice place to eat. This fit the bill.
(4)Live2BeBetter 1.
This place has some great food! I went to dinner with 4 other people and we all ordered different items on there menu and we all enjoyed our orders very much! They also make a good martini! Beautiful decor, great service! I'd come back and try it again for sure!
(4)Lisa M.
The food is great but over priced. We enjoyed it but i wont be running back. The restaurant is pretty dimly lit. So we were happy to sit by the window and have some actual light. Half way through our meal one of the waiters came over and snapped our blinds closed and was really rude "This is too bright for our customers." and then ran off. Uhhhhh.
(3)Jason N.
Great service and great food! We had the elk medallion and 9oz tenderloin which were both great. The sauce with the elk was a little different. The garlic ranch on the salad was to die for!!!
(5)Albert K.
A great place to meet, drink & eat. I like the prime rib here along with a draft beer. The service I have always found to be great. I think you and your party will find this place welcoming.
(4)J D.
After a long day of travel, we were hoping for a good meal to end the day. Gun Barrel looked good, great decor, friendly staff. Much potential. Alas, the food did not live up to expectations. I ordered a Tenderloin Medallion and the waitress brought ribs. My wife ordered baby back ribs and got the same ribs I did. We decided to give it a go...big mistake! The ribs were definitely NOT baby backs, they were fatty, tough and not very well cooked. Slow roasted ribs should fall off the bone. We had to tear ours apart. Very disappointing.

Tasty! Went here Friday night for dinner around 8-8:15pm... and the place was not crowded... (I guess folks eat early around here)... Started with the chicken-corn chowder... YUM! This was fabulous... thick with lots of chunks of chicken, veggies, potatoes. I would have been happy with a big bowl of this and the bread. The Bread was fresh out of the oven... melt-in-your-mouth-yummy. Be careful... it's easy to fill up on bread alone. Save yourself. I ordered the Buffalo Ribs and the husband ordered the Elk Chops.... both were prepared perfectly. My Buffalo Ribs fell off the bone... no knife needed. It was rich and meaty... just like you'd expect "game" to be... but NOT tough or "game-y" or stringy. The Elk Chops were not as large a portion as my ribs ... actually... much more reasonably sized if you ask me than the ribs which could easily feed 2 average people. The Elk Chops were prepared med-rare so they were not dry and came out juicy and flavorful. Both were served with crispy fried onions and green beans. Didn't have dessert because we were too full.... but the bread pudding looked tasty... next time. Service: 5 stars - our water glasses were never empty Ambiance: 5 stars - casual, easy going, not overly woodsy or moutain-man-like (Note: there are stuffed animals as part of the decor so if that bothers you... don't look up) All in all... Great Meal! If we are in St. George again... we'll go again.
(5)Brian L.
Excellent food, great service, a real wood-burning grill, and delicious game meat and steak coming off that grill.
(4)Randall F.
A very good steakhouse, interesting interior that is fitting of the name. Our service for a party of 7 was pretty good and our steaks were serve just as they were cooked...no complaints so they must have gotten the meat temperature right. Decent prices for good steaks.
(4)M F.
Excellent meal, ordered the buffalo wings-get them done crispy!New York steak meal $15!! Blue cheese dressing wonderful, tomato basil soup so good. Sweet potato was yummy...too full for desert. We are coming bk for the mudpie and apple pie..and cookie skillet!
(4)Jeremy B.
In Utah where hunting wild game is a right of passage, this place seems a bit overpriced for elk and bison. That being said, I was not disappointed by how perfectly they cooked the elk steak or the bison. I went with a large group of 15 and every person was very satisfied with how their food was prepared, and all the excellent drinks that came along with it. If you're willing to splurge for a night, its worth the money for some excellent choice meat.

Went here with the family for my wife's birthday. Positives: The décor is creative and in line with what you'd expect for a "steak and game" restaurant. They accept reservations, but even without them there was no wait to be seated (it WAS a Tuesday, though). The service was friendly and reasonably attentive to our needs. The tomato soup was quite good. My wife received a free chocolate cake for her birthday. The rest of us split a cheesecake that was very tasty. Negatives: The three adults in our party all ordered the same cut of steak. It was a little pricey ($21.50) for the size (8 oz.). I ordered mine medium, and the other two were ordered medium-rare. The stakes we got were all over the map in how well they had been cooked; only one was really on-target. Two of us ended up trading stakes to get something closer to what we ordered. Summary: Quite a bit of money for small cuts and inconsistent cooking. I'd suggest Outback Steakhouse on the other side of town for better meat. I didn't try the game, though, so if you're into elk, this is pretty much your only choice in the area.

I believe more stars would be appropriate for the cuisine; it is just that the service is so lacking... We have dined here on three occasions, each time the restaurant was nearly empty. So, wouldn't you think we'd receive attentive service? Nope. Worse, the staff was chatting away when one could have been, I dunno, taking the table's order, refilling water glasses or checking on us.... Nope. Boo! I thought it was an isolated incident, but each time we have dined, the food has been delicious, but the service impersonal and terribly slooooooooow. The plus side is that the establishment is fairly quiet, the St. George Texas Roadhouse is usually crazy busy with similar fare but you won't have a challenge getting in at the Gun Barrel... Ever... Maybe the management / owners should look into revamping the wait staff and emphasizing excellent service.
(2)David B.
The Gun Barrel is not much more than an expensive steak house with ambience. My buffalo prime rib was cold, and my horseradish sauce was more like sour cream. On top of that the bread they brought out was tasteless and the food was slow in coming, even though there was almost no one there. $70 later I am never going back. If you need a good steak dinner you would be better served going to Outback or Texas Roadhouse...Sorry folks there is just not much to get excited about here, not even the meat.
(2)Richard C.
The clam chowder was excellent! The stuffed rainbow trout was good. The salmon was good. If you order the large 9oz salmon then a salad is too much food, opt for the smaller portion. Oh yes the fried calamari was good too, NOT too chewy like some places.
(4)nina m.
Finally tried It. It was pretty good ,I had Rib Eye steak was very tasty, cooked in open flame, you can see them while cooking it.Calamari was a bit chewy, Fried green tomato very tasty. Nicely decorated cowboy style, . The staff were very attending even the restaurant was very full in a busy evening.
(4)Lance C.
The ambiance is great. You get exactly what you would expect from a "steak and game house". Plenty of taxidermy on the walls, and hunting cabin-esque architecture. I decided to go big or go home and did the mixed platter which consists of buffalo prime rib, elk steak, a couple of buffalo ribs, garlic mash potatoes, and clam chowder. The clam chowder was served up first along with some delicious warm bread. It was excellent with no shortage of clams. Then came the main course, and this was a serious plate of manly meat. My step father ordered the same plate, but didn't finish the entire plate like I did. He left his man card at home. Let's start with the elk steak. It might have been cooked medium over medium rare (which I requested) but was still quite delicious and had absolutely zero gameyness (is that a word?) to it. Next was the buffalo ribs. They were ridiculously tender, and fell off the bone. They had a little too much sauce on them which was overpowering, but were also excellent. Last but not least was the buffalo prime rib. About an 8oz cut, it was cooked to perfection. Now let me say that I consider myself a prime rib-aholic, so it's VERY tough to impress me. With that said, I was pretty happy with the prime rib. The edges were flavor explosions in every bite. However as you got to the middle of the cut, there was much less flavor (no doubt due to the lean nature of buffalo compared to beef). It was good, but it didn't change my life. I'd probably opt for the beef prime rib next time (you can substitute beef for the buffalo if you wish). All in all a great resturant and my out of town family was very impressed. We'll be back!
(4)Jaime S.
Went tonight with 3 others... everyone was happy! 2 of us had the buffalo prime rib (best prime rib I have ever had!!), one had the porterhouse, and one had the halibut. No room for desert! We were stuffed. NOTE: unlike other places in Utah, when 2 of us ordered our meat rare, it actually came rare! I am sick of ordering rare and receiving med-well, so great job! I would recommend. As an added bonus, the service was great, too! 11/26/2012 UPDATE: Speaking of great customer service... When we got home from our visit, my mother realized that she had lost her change purse (no ID, just some cash and change). She was devastated; that little bag had sentimental value. I called and left a message saying please call me if they found it. Not only did someone turn it in but when I picked it up ALL THE MONEY was there, too! How awesome! THANKS AGAIN!!
(5)Bobby H.
Oh wow.. This place was amazing. The interior is very cool. It's like going to a hunting lodge.. Which makes perfect sense since your belly is about to be filled up with some wild game. I had the sampler plate with the Buffalo Prime Rib, Elk steak and Buffalo Rib. Oh man.. The meat was sooo good. Probably the best buffalo steak I have ever had. So flavorful and juicy! The elk had good flavor and was very lean which was a good compliment to the fattier buffalo. The buffalo rib was okay.. Very sinewy.. The sides were delicious as well. I was very impressed and next time I am in St. George I will return!
(5)Sandy D.
Good hearty food, rustic atmosphere and a Tesla charger across the parking lot!! They served Elk...it was very lean..glad we had a chance to taste it!! Met with some great friends, Nancy and Mark Gilmore!! St George was great fun!
(4)Shauna S.
The guy who took our reservation was very helpful. He offered us the quietest table to celebrate my husband's birthday with another couple. Very nice, clean bathrooms. The busboy was good to keep our drinks full and cleared away dirty dishes. Everyone liked their food--chopped sirloin with mushroom and onion gravy, wild rice pilaf, french onion soup, salads, sirloin and buffalo steaks, fish and chips, sweet potato fries, steamed veggies and garlic mashed potatoes. We had to ask for the complimentary bread which ended up being small and blah. Our waiter was okay. He explained the specials and got our orders correct. But the end of our meal cost him one star. He rushed us even though the restaurant didn't close for hours. And he brought our bill without asking if we wanted dessert, which I did!!
(3)Jessie B.
I loved everything about my visit to Gun Barrel Steak House. My husband and I were staying overnight in St George before heading to Zion the following day to celebrate my birthday. I love the old west decor, and the fact that everything is mesquite grilled. We started out with the appetizer platter: Fried green tomatoes were a nice change from your typical fried appetizer. Potato boats were pretty standard. The wings were excellent, so meaty and the buffalo sauce had just the right amount of kick without being too oily. I really wanted to order something I didn't typically see at steakhouses, so I went with one of the specials for the evening, a buffalo sirloin cooked to the recommended medium rare. This may be a little too pink for some people but it's how I typically prefer my steaks to be cooked so I had no problem going along with the recommendation. My steak came with soup or salad (I went with the later) as well as a side of my choosing (I had the baked sweet potato with maple butter). My husband had the buffalo ribs. They reminded us of when Fred Flintstone used to order the brontosaurus ribs, these suckers were huge. He also got a salad and went with veggies for his side. Both of our meals also came with onion straws. All of the food was excellent. The buffalo sirloin was juicy and flavorful, without being gamey. The ribs were so tender, but a bit over sauced. I liked my husbands peas almost as much as my baked sweet potato (the maple butter made it so sweet, it was almost like dessert instead of a side dish). Service was good. Our waitress was friendly and took great care of us, answering all of our questions about the different specials. Our water was never below half full and we were offered refills on our hot tea more than once. I would absolutely return to Gun Barrel if I was craving some buffalo, elk or even some good old beef. Note: Closed on Sundays
(4)Amy N.
I tried their buffalo prime rib and it was not a disappoint! My friend and I came here on a Saturday (make reservation ahead time to avoid the long lines). She had the beef prime rib and we were both satisfied with our orders! Both steak were cooked to our needs and we couldn't be happier! We enjoyed our meal with a bottle of Cabernet and it was delicious!
(5)Tiffany T.
We had a scrumptious dinner here last night for about $90 / 2 people including a $36 bottle of wine. I ordered a 12 oz prime rib, medium rare, OF COURSE, and was served a humongous perfectly hot, pink, mountainous slab of well seasoned steak that was AT LEAST 18 oz if not 24 oz when you factor in the fat. It was awwwwesome. My boyfriend had the fish & chips which were the Special of the night for $13 and they were rad, too. Super tasty tartar sauce and super crispy chips. Oh, and the French Onion Soup was definitely worth the $2.50 up charge. The atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely and rustic (if you enjoy stuffed animals and bear skins). We sat by the giant, romantic fireplace. Our server Tim was friendly and fun. All in all, it was so good for a "very moderately priced steak house", I'm going to try and talk my boyfriend into going back there tonight!
(5)Kolby T.
What I had: French onion soup New York Steak Mud Pie The service is usually a really good here. I like the atmosphere. It is a big old steak house for sure. They sometimes have the option for wood fired food. The mud pie is homemade and delicious. A different flavor almost every day. They have Coke, not Pepsi. That's a plus.
(4)Andy C.
The prices here are incomprehensibly high (average $26) for the meager quality. The "special" my father (63) and I (35) had, which was a New York steak, was wide and flat. I ordered it medium and receive something closer to medium well. It was a steak which truly lives up to the standards of Sizzler. My wife (36) enjoyed the Salmon well enough but both of my kids (13 & 15) felt the ribs were dry and boring. I did not bother discussing this with the staff as I usually would, but we were all ready to call it a night.
(1)Boyd Z.
Just got back from the Gun Barrel. I've eaten there several times. I started with the one in Jackson Hole. The one in St George is good and getting better all the time. I had the 14 oz rib eye. The wife had the Parmesan crusted halibut. Both were excellent. Notice the elk mount over the fireplace. My friend has loaned it to GB for a nice display. Beautiful mount. We had a great evening.
(5)Greg R.
Looking for a good meal in St. George, and found it at Gun Barrel. Got there around 4:45 on a Tuesday, hoping to beat the dinner crowd, and had the entire place to ourselves. We ordered the half-rack of ribs and the bison steak. The ribs were excellent -- lots and lots of meat on each rib, and the sauce was tasty without becoming too spicy by the end of the meal. The bison steak seemed really well prepared -- seared on the outside, red on the inside, and warm throughout -- but there was a lot of inedible connective tissue, and the rest was pretty tough. Glad I tried it, but next time, I'm getting beef. Our waitress Jen and our water sommelier Nate took great care of us throughout the meal. This is the one place in St. George to which we would return next time we're in town.
(4)Jesse D.
Best ribeye steak in town and the atmosphere is awesome. You'll love it! Oh and the bread is a plus.
(5)Bridget B.
This was a very pleasant surprise due to our passing through from a hiking trip. The staff was pleasantly genuine and courteous. I have passed through and have eaten at many establishments in the town. I truly felt welcomed by this business. The food was delicious :) We truly appreciated the great service and food. Thank you
(5)Sherrye W.
Superb Elk Medallions- never had better! Nice decor and friendly staff. Weekly offerings of bison prime rib are on the menu, too. The only thing that could make this better would be more game to choose from; moose, boar, or even pheasant would be great options. I'll be back.
(5)Dana I.
Great service. Good drinks. Very good food. Nice surprise since we had no idea where to go once we got to ST George.
(5)Noelle W.
Food was fabulous, service spectacular. The filet was cooked perfectly, as were the ribs. The garlic mashed potatoes were dreamily creamy and perfectly seasoned. We were in a hurry and they got us out when we needed to leave. Our server was very attentive. Will definitely return.
(5)Steve A.
Should have gone for the Prime Rib. I did the Ribeye, it was cooked as I ordered it.
(3)Dean K.
Passing through St George and wanted a steak house. Looked at Yelp, and found Gun Barrel and it sounded good. We had one if the best steak dinners in years. Every thing was great, would come back here in a heart beat. Drive by the other main stream steak joints and head to Gun Barrel.
(5)Dan M.
Wife and I had dinner there last night. Not busy got seated right away. Waitress was a little slow in coming to table. Appetizer of jalapeño popper dip was great. Salad came right before meal. Ribs were great tasting. Wife had grilled chicken sandwich which she enjoyed. Good overall experience.
